What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a complimentary therapy using gentle pressure on the feet or hands to encourage the body to heal itself by restoring and maintaining the body’s natural equilibrium.
While working on the feet experienced hands may detect imbalances and trigger points and by working on these areas one can release blockages, ease tension, increase circulation and potentially improve elimination. Reflexology dates back to Ancient Egypt, India and China and was introduced to the west by Dr William Fitzgerald as ‘Zone Therapy” and refined by others including Eunice Ingham, who observed that congestion or tension in any part of the foot was reflected in the corresponding area of the body. It later became known as Reflexology .
Reflexology is used by many people as a way of relaxing the mind and body and counteracting stress. Some doctors, consultants and other health care professionals recognise reflexology as a well established, respected and effective therapy. It may help people to cope on a physical, mental and emotional level encouraging healing and maintenance in all areas of life and with ever increasing levels of stress, it is important for people take responsibility for their own health care needs.
